From 50-year-old vines at the Château de Bonpas near Avignon, an estate founded in 1318 under the Avignon popes. Grenache and Carignan, hand-harvested on the Rhône's famous round pebbles and aged 15 months in French oak. Deep red, ripe red fruit and a touch of liquorice, round and generous with Mediterranean garrigue and a gently spicy finish. Lovely with grilled meats, aubergine and tomato bakes or duck breast.
Winemaker's Notes
The Château de Bonpas stands outside Avignon, at an old crossing of the Durance river: its name comes from 'Bon Passage'. It was founded in 1318 under the Avignon popes, who used it to make wine, store grain and quarter troops, and its wines were served at the papal court. This Vieilles Vignes cuvée comes from vines about 50 years old, picked by hand on the round pebbles typical of the Rhône valley.

Tasting Notes
Deep red colour. Ripe red fruit with a hint of liquorice on the nose. The palate combines the round, sweet feel of Grenache with Mediterranean garrigue, balanced and harmonious, with a gently spicy finish and clear minerality from the terroir. Good ageing potential: the spice grows with time. Pairs well with grilled meats, aubergine and tomato bakes, or duck breast.
